NorthEast United FC were edged 1-0 by Bengaluru FC in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 in front of their home fans at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday. A mistake from the Highlanders custodian TP Rehenesh allowed the Blues to capitalise through Miku, but otherwise their defence stood strong, hardly allowing any leverage to the Bengaluru players. Marshalling the defence was NorthEast’s Guinea-Bissauan defender Sambinha. He came up with a powerful performance at the back and kept a check of most of Bengaluru’s attacks. Post the match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with the centre-back, where he shared his thoughts regarding the game. Excerpts from the interview:
Disappointing result. Your thoughts on the match?
We lost, but we have to continue working hard and take it into the next game.
You created a lot of chances, but were unable to finish. What do you think is lacking?
Today we could not score. I think the team worked hard. But, I am thinking about the next game. This game is over.
Do you have any specific preparations for the next match against the Kerala Blasters?
Yeah, now I am thinking about the next game. We’ll work hard this weekend, and see how it goes. I think in the next match maybe we can work and score.
What do you have to say to the fans?
The team will continue to work hard, and we promise that next match will be better.
