Rodrigues rues lapse in concentration after defeat

Lenny Rodrigues had a bad day at the office as FC Pune City were edged by NorthEast United FC 1-0 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday. The visitors appeared to be heading towards one point from the match when Romaric scored the winner for the Highlanders nine minutes from time. Rodrigues had a mixed day and came close to scoring as his thunderbolt from distance rattled the post to the relief of over 18,000 home fans in the stands. 29-year-old midfielder Rodrigues spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the match and shared his thoughts on the defeat. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

You lost the game, so what are your thoughts on that?

Yes, we lost and that happens in football but yesterday also I told you the importance of concentration, and in the last ten minutes [we saw] one ball, one free kick and one goal but there are still two matches remaining, so there is hope.

You lost Momar Ndoye in the first half and he was looking bright, so did the game change after he was substituted?

In football, there is always another player as a replacement. However, when we lost him, there indeed was a bit of pressure on us.

Things got heated up towards the end of the first half…

I don’t exactly know what happened and I think the referee and linesmen can give a better answer.

The match was even in the first half and in the second half you saw a different NorthEast team, so what are your thoughts on their comeback?

We played our best but we didn’t get the goals and they got one chance and they converted it.
