A part of NorthEast United FC from the inaugural Hero Indian Super League season, goalkeeper TP Rehenesh has been the man between the sticks for the Highlanders over the past few years. Rehenesh was retained by NEUFC ahead of the new season and after Subrata Paul’s departure, has cemented his place as his club’s first-choice goalkeeper. Ahead of Thursday’s away fixture against Chennaiyin FC, Rehenesh spoke to indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive interview and shared his views on the upcoming season. Here are the excerpts.

You were one of the two players to be retained by the head coach. Do you feel that there’s extra pressure on you?

Not really. I am really happy to be a part of the team again. Everyone knows that we are like a family and we work as a team. There is no pressure, I am really happy. I will continue playing like this for as long as I can.

How do you rate your chances in NEUFC’s first away match against Chennaiyin FC?

We did quite well in the last match, but that was the first match of the competition after a long period. I hope we do better for the next game and get three points. Nothing less than three points.

Who do you think is a key player from the Chennaiyin FC camp?

We play as a team and don’t look for any specific player. We are looking at the team and how they play as a unit. They played well in the second half of the last match. We are very sure that they are going to come with whatever they can against us. So, we are well prepared, and we are looking forward to getting the three points.

Do you have any message for the fans?

The Highlanders have been awesome throughout the seasons. So, I hope you guys continue to do that and will always come to support and motivate us to win all the matches.
