Mumbai City FC will be aiming to make it two wins out of two when they travel south to take on former Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) champions, Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

Ahead of that fixture, indiansuperleague.com caught up with Islanders’ midfielder, Raynier Fernandes for an exclusive interview. Here are the excerpts:

Back-to-back away games for Mumbai City FC, how is the team preparing?
We had a good match against Kerala Blasters FC and now we are playing against Chennaiyin, so it will be good for us, we'll have the confidence to do well in our home match. So, we are focused on the match and we are going to try our best and try to get the three points. It will be good for us.

Mumbai City FC faced Chennaiyin FC in pre-season, will that help in this fixture?
In the pre-season we played many matches, not just with Chennaiyin FC. So, our coach (Jorge Costa) was trying all the players, even the Chennaiyin team was trying their players. It's important for us to not think about the previous match we played against them. It’s a new match. It’s a fresh start again. Tactically, I think it will be great, the coach has a good plan for us. So, if we do that, we hope to get a good result.

On injury setbacks for Mumbai City FC?
Football is a game of mistakes, injuries and all that. We have 25 squad players, so everyone gives their level best in training. The players who are injured, it is sad for them, but other players are there, all the Indian players are there who will try to fill the spaces.

Any pressure on other players to step up in place of the injured Mato Grgic?
No, there won’t be any pressure. We are in professional football, everyone has trained to play every match. So, it’s unfortunate that Mato (Grgic) got injured last match. But all our Indian players, and whoever else plays in the defence are going to give their 100% and it will be a good day for them.

On facing former Mumbai City FC captain Lucian Goian.

There is no such special plan for him. We are going to play against a team, there's no special plan for any player. Mumbai City FC are going to do well, and I hope we get the three points.

On establishing a partnership with Rowllin Borges in midfield.
It's good, he is a Goan guy like me. So, our understanding is better on the field, and we are communicating well on and off the field, so it’s good. If any mistake happens, we rectify the mistake, we talk to each other. So, it is good. In the national team, I don't know who is going to play or start. So, the bond is good, it will be good for us in the national team as well.
