FC Goa hosts Delhi Dynamos FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Wednesday. The Gaurs have picked up just a point in their previous four fixtures and are placed sixth in the league standings. Goalkeeping has been an issue with the team, as they remain the only team to not have a clean sheet so far in the season. Naveen Kumar has been Goa’s second-choice custodian and has two appearances under his belt. The 28-year-old spoke to indiansuperleague.com prior to the encounter against the Lions and shared his thoughts. Here are the excerpts.
How did your football journey begin?
I started playing football in school. From there I went on to play professional, with my first club being JCT. That was my first step going ahead. My journey started with JCT.
How has been your Hero ISL experience so far?
My experience has been good in both the matches I have played so far, although we lost both of them. This is my first stint in the league, and my debut was against Bengaluru FC. They are a very good team, and to play against them was huge for me. Unfortunately we did not win, but we will definitely win the match tomorrow.
How would you approach the match tomorrow?
The most important thing for the team is to maintain a clean sheet and I will give my hundred percent to get one.
How is it playing under Sergio Lobera?
It has been a very good experience playing under Sergio Lobera. We have learnt to play the tiki-taka style of football thanks to him. It is also very easy playing according to his formation, and it feels good as well. We get a lot of confidence playing under him.
How much have you improved under him?
I have learnt how to build the game from the back. It is a great thing to learn and it helps me and my team.
What do you do while relaxing?
We are in Goa, and obviously we have the option of going to the beaches, which is a great thing. I go to the beaches when I am not training. Sit there and relax. And at home, I play PlayStation with my friends.
Who is your partner most often while playing the Playstation?
That would be Amey (Ranawade). He plays well, and whenever we are free, we play all the time!
Who would you tag as the prankster in your team?
Ahmed Jahouh. He does not understand Hindi or English, but he jokes around with each and every person.
