Mondal eyes three points against Delhi Dynamos

Arnab Mondal will be hoping to secure Atlético de Kolkata’s maiden win over Delhi Dynamos FC when they play host to Gianluca Zambrotta’s men in Hero Indian Super League 2016 on Saturday. A mainstay in defence for ATK since the inaugural edition of the league, Mondal’s calming influence at the back will be critical for the 2014 winners’ title aspirations this year. The Indian international has completed two successful tackles, six interceptions, seven blocks and 24 interceptions in Hero ISL 2016. He also boasts a passing accuracy of 75% and is the only Kolkata defender to have completed every minute of his side’s campaign so far. Speaking to indiansuperleague.com ahead of Saturday’s clash, Mondal shared his thoughts on his team’s campaign so far. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

Your team is in the fifth position with six points and the league is very tight, so how many points do you think will be enough for the semis?

I can’t say anything right now as many teams are playing well and NorthEast are on top with ten points and we are playing our next game on October 22, so we are focussing on that and 20-21 points are enough to qualify for the semis.

What do you make of ATK’s performance till now?

See I think all teams are playing well and are competitive and are giving good competition and we are also focussing on doing well and winning games.

Do you think ATK could have won more matches?

Yes, we could have but this is football. You can’t say anything. I will try to do my best and we will try to take as many points as possible.

What do you have to say about your own performance?

My performance has been okay and I want to improve. Even if I do well and we don’t win, it is of no use, so the focus is on getting results for the team, and when the team gets a good result, it feels great.

You are playing Delhi Dynamos tomorrow, so what do have to say about them?

I think Delhi is a good side in all departments and we are focussing on getting maximum points against Delhi.
