Bengaluru FC beat defending champions ATK 2 – 0 in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Saturday. Jordi Montel’s own-goal gave the Blues an early lead before their goal-machine Miku sealed the points with his second-half strike. The Venezuelan now has 10 goals in the league so far, and he took time to address indiansuperleague.com post the match and share his thoughts. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

Your thoughts on the game?

It was a hard game. It is always hard when you play away and we played against last year’s champions. A great game defensively and we also tried to attack. In the end, we won, got the three points and I scored. So, we’re happy.

You have played here at this stadium before, representing Venezuela against Lionel Messi’s Argentina. What is it like to score here?

It’s different when you play with your national team than when you play with your club. But I am happy. When I was here four or five years ago, at that time, the field was artificial grass and now it has changed. I see a lot of improvement.

How difficult was the second half, particularly with Rahul Bheke’s red card?

It was hard even with 11 players. It was harder because they were losing, they were trying to score a goal and pushing our defence back. After we had only 10 players, we had to sacrifice a lot and I had to run more to help my teammates. In the end, from one counter, we scored the second goal and killed the game.

You think you guys have one foot in the playoffs?

You never know in football. It’s a hard game. When you think you play well, then some team comes and beats you. We played against Delhi (Dynamos FC) when they were in the last position and we were in the first position, and we lost the game. The most important thing is to take it with every game because every game is hard. Especially here, because all the teams have the same level. We are at a good moment and we will try to prepare for the next game away to Chennaiyin FC, which is a very hard game.

What do you expect from the game against Chennaiyin?

It will be a difficult game. They beat us in our stadium. So, we need to take care of that because they have a good, physical team and we want to prepare the game in a different way.
