Bernard Mendy was distraught after Chennaiyin FC’s 3-1 loss against Kerala Blasters FC in Hero Indian Super League 2016 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Saturday evening. The Super Machans took the lead through Mendy in the first half. However, goals from substitute Didier Boris Kadio and a brace from CK Vineeth ensured that the Blasters claimed all three points in the second south Indian derby of the season. Mendy spent 69 minutes on the pitch for the Super Machans before being substituted and completed one key pass as well as an interception. The Frenchman spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the game. Here are the excerpts from the interview. It’s always tough to come here and play in this atmosphere but you had a lot of chances to begin with. Can you tell us a bit more about the first half?We had chances in the first half to kill the game but we didn’t take them and in the second half we conceded a goal because of a mistake, we never learn. I don’t think it’s over but we can say that Kerala played with their heart today unlike Chennai. The crowd here is one of the best in India. It’s amazing. You were the better team for the most part of the game. Does it hurt to come out on the losing side?Yeah, sometimes the better team doesn’t win. We kept the ball for long parts of the game and I told the boys that we must kill the game. If we had killed the game, it would have been over in the first half. In the previous game too, Kerala scored in the dying moments. It was a great performance from the Kerala team.
