Bernard Mendy scored a superb solo goal during Chennaiyin FC’s 4-1 loss in Hero Indian Super League 2016 against Delhi Dynamos FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday. The French centre-back scored Chennai’s only goal of the match in the 37th minute to give them a fighting chance in the second period as the sides went in at the break with the score 2-1 in favour of the hosts. A brilliant second half showing by the Dynamos, however, dashed the Super Machans’ hopes of a comeback as Delhi ran out 4-1 victors. Mendy, who completed one successful tackle, two blocks, two clearances and two successful take-ons during the match, spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the match. Here are the excerpts from the interview. What would you say went wrong today? We didn't play well today and we gifted them the first two goals. We pulled one back, but it was not enough and now we have got to do well in the next match. You have played at home and away against them and they have stepped it up a level. What are your thoughts on Delhi? They are a good team but we didn't play well in these two games, so there is nothing to say about that.A couple of feisty tackles went in and it was very competitive, so what would you say about that? No, it was not a tough game. It was tactical and we did not focus. On a personal level you scored a great goal, does it feel bittersweet?Yeah, today we did not play well, so I don’t want to say anything regarding my goal. You have been one of the better teams in the past two seasons, so how confident are you that you can come back from this and defend your title?Like I said, we must learn from our mistake and we gifted them two or three goals and that made it easy for them to win.
