Chennaiyin FC beat Mumbai City FC 3-0 in the 2015 Hero Indian Super League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on a wet Tuesday evening to bring an end to Mumbai’s chances of making the semis. Mumbai put on a valiant effort against a free-flowing Chennayin attack in tough conditions but in the end it didn’t prove to be enough. Ashutosh Mehta, who played the full 90 minutes for his side as they bowed out of Hero ISL 2015, spoke to indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive chat shortly after the game and assessed his team’s performance on the night while also looking ahead to their last game of the season against Atlético de Kolkata. Here are the excerpts from the interview. What do you think went wrong today?I have nothing to say really. Sometime things don’t go your way but you’ve got to keep working till the end. We tried but it wasn’t good enough. A big thank to the fans for their support and apologies for not being able to give them a good season. You think the weather had a part to play in today’s result…We cannot give that excuse because it was the same for them as well. They played better than us and deserved a win.Looking for a consolation victory in your last game…It depends on the mental status of all the players. But I think we’re going to go all out for the Kolkata game because it’s all about pride now. We haven’t won any game away this season, hence, we’ll have to show character in our upcoming game. How would you analyse your performance this season? There was quite some improvement in me. It was an honour for me to share the dressing room with players like Nicolas Anelka and Sunil Chhetri. So I got to learn a lot from them.
