ATK lock horns with a resurgent Jamshedpur FC side in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Sunday. Having struggled to score goals and with constant injury concerns, the defending champions signed forward Martin Paterson to bolster their ranks for the second half of the campaign. Scoring a goal in his Hero ISL debut, the Englishman is hopeful of adding to his tally as he speaks to indiansuperleague.com before the crucial fixture. Here are the excerpts.

You lost the last game but you did score a goal, so your thoughts on that?

Obviously, disappointed with the result. Going forward we have four games at home. Although I’m new to the team, we as a group know that we need to pick up results in these games, and they preferably need to be wins.

How integral will the upcoming home games be to the team’s fortunes?

I think in any league if you can have four games at home, it is an advantage. So, we need to take advantage of that advantage.

What is the atmosphere like in the dressing room?

I’ve only been here since Tuesday, but the atmosphere seems fine to me. It looks like a motivated bunch of players, ready to win games. Obviously, I’m coming to help.

What has interim head coach Ashley Westwood conveyed in training?

It seems that Ashley wants the team to play with energy, work hard and try to get the wins.

Do you have the belief in your squad of making the playoffs?

I think I’ll go with a yes. I think, personally, if I didn’t believe we’d make the playoffs, I wouldn’t be here. We‘re pushing hard to make sure that we’re in the playoffs. It’s going to be hard. This league is difficult and competitive but we believe if we can get results in the next few games, it’ll be a great opportunity to get into the playoffs.

Jamshedpur have a very direct style of play and will be desperate for a win too. What kind of a game are you expecting?

Again, because I’m new here, I don’t quite know how the teams play. If you say it’s British and a direct style, it’s nothing that I haven’t played against before, and I’m sure some of the players have played against teams like that before. I think the focus can only be on ourselves and what we need to do.

What was it like to play in the Salt Lake Stadium?

It’s a fantastic stadium. I really enjoyed it. I’ve only been here a short while. I thoroughly enjoyed the first game and looking to improve as the season goes on.
