Ahead of their next match against Kerala Blasters, indiansuperleague.com conducted an exclusive interview with Marko Stankovic to uncover his thoughts on Indian football and the players to watch out for in Kerala. Here are the excerpts:
How has adapting to Indian football been for you?
Honestly, it was very easy because it’s a great honour to be here in Pune. I can’t complain about anything, the whole staff starting from the president, from the sports director to the team manager everybody helps the foreign players to adjust straightaway so the team was very nice, we played awesome football, we’d been at the top of the league so it’s the easiest thing for a foreign player to come inside and yeah, I can’t complain about anything so far even now if we don’t have the results like we wanted.
Who do you think poses the biggest threat from Kerala Blasters FC?
Well, the first thing is that we have to take care of ourselves, not to watch too much about Kerala Blasters FC because now in Goa we’ve seen what we’re able to do in the fancy way but the most important thing for us is to defend also together because so far we conceded too many goals and that’s the most important thing but if you ask me about players of Kerala Blasters FC, the two Balkan boys in the attack; Matej Poplatnik and Slavisla Stojanovic I think they are very dangerous, played a decent season so far, settled well in India so take care about them.
How is the team looking to put the poor start behind them?
The good thing about football is that it doesn’t live in the past so you have each week a new challenge and a new game to show that it’s not your true face that you’ve shown in the first rounds so especially here in India, the next nine days we have three games so you don’t have to think about the past too much, just focus on the next game and the good thing about our team is we have a good dressing room, we have nice guys , everybody is positive so far so now also with Pradyum Reddy who does a great job as a coach now, I think it’s going to be good for the next games but I can speak as much as you want but it just depends now on the results.
Is having four games in a row at home beneficial to turning your season around?
Definitely, it’s much easier to have your supporters in the back, even if our Orange Army goes to the away games but if you play at home it’s also another different thing. Now, we just have to focus on winning the games, to play our game like we did last year, focus on our strength and work together on our weakness so we’re all really looking forward to the next game.
