FC Pune City welcome a resurgent Jamshedpur side to the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 on Wednesday. The Stallions new recruit Marko Stankovic will add to their firepower as they look to maintain their position in the top four. In an exclusive interview with indiansuperleague.com before the game, the 31-year old Austrian shared his thoughts on the league and the upcoming fixture.
What was the driving force behind your move to India?
I had the offer and I had to watch a couple of games from India, to see if the competition could be nice for me. And yes, the first impression was good and I thought it will be nice for me to play here.
On a scale of one to 10, how unpredictable is the ISL?
For sure, 10 (laughs).
According to you, which is your strongest and most comfortable position?
I prefer to play in centre midfield or in the number 10 position. It’s up to the coach where he puts me, but these two positions are the ones that I have played most in my career and I think these are positions where I can help my team the most.
Can you tell us about your favourite international club and player?
I don’t have to think a lot about it. It’s Real Madrid and Luka Modric for me, is one of the best players.
Till now, what do you love most about India?
My first impression was that everybody is very nice, everybody loves to laugh a lot and everybody wants to help me. So the first impression is that everybody is very positive and that means that the culture is very nice. I have to explore a lot because it’s just been one week that I’m here. The first impression can’t be better.
What is your mindset about the game tomorrow?
It’s going to be tough, it’s a good opponent. They are doing well now and yeah we have to doour best, we have to give our best because if we give our best, I think we’re not too easy to beat and the result depends on our performance tomorrow. If we give our 100% we will win the game.
