Manuel Lanzarote: Partnership with Coro working well

The air is getting thin at the top of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) table, as FC Goa joins Bengaluru FC and Chennaiyin FC at nine points apiece. A 5-2 battering of Kerala Blasters FC at home was more than enough for the Gaurs to assert their attacking potency – something Coro and Lanzarote have been instrumental in. After the match, Manuel Lanzarote and Bruno Pinheiro spoke to indiansuperleague.com about the resounding victory, and FC Goa’s free-scoring style of play. Here are the excerpts.
Bruno, what are your thoughts on the win?
It was an amazing game, and better than the ones before. Very good show. This is what we promised before the start of the season - to put up a good show for the fans. Hence, we try to play good football and today was another example that we play quality football. Firstly, these results are not favourable. We need to improve. But I'll appreciate the efforts of the team, of every player. It is very difficult to comeback from 0-1 and win. In the second half, we came back strongly, and these three points are well deserved.
Manuel, what is your take on your own performance?
I am very happy with the team's performance and the win first of all. We are now the (joint) table toppers after these three points, and this is how it goes. It isn’t about an individual performance, but more about how we work collectively.
Manuel, how is the experience, playing with a player like Corominas?
It is very easy to play with a quality player like Corominas who moves quickly without the ball, creates a lot of space, and with my passing, I find him very easily. So far, this partnership has scored goals for FC Goa, and I hope that it continues in the same way.
Bruno, you have scored a lot when attacking, but also conceded a lot at the back. What are your thoughts on that?
This is one team. When we score, we take it like a team. From the goalkeeper, to the defence, to the midfield, and to the attack. Even when we defend, it is the same. When we concede a goal, it is the same. It comes from the attack, to the midfield, to the defence. It is not that the attacking sector is the one which scores, and the defence is the one which concedes. This is one thing which we must improve as a team. It is our style of play - very attractive. We give a lot of spaces, and this is the risk that we take. But the end motive is to put up a good show and score goals. While attacking, we leave a lot of spaces in the defence, but we must keep the ball safe. We are improving game by game. In the second half we were perfect in defence, and we hope to continue in the same way.
