Malouda: Kerala draw is a fair result

Florent Malouda completed the full 90 minutes in his first start for Delhi Dynamos FC in the 2016 Hero Indian Super League on Sunday. The veteran Frenchman had more touches of the ball (62) than anyone from his side as he covered every blade of grass during the Lions’ 0-0 draw against Kerala Blasters FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. The draw put the Dynamos third in the table with four points from two games and extended their unbeaten start to the season. Malouda spoke to indiansuperleague.com shortly after the game and shared his thoughts on the match. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

What are your thoughts on the match today?

I think the result is really normal. Both teams struggled on the pitch today and it was a very physical game. There were very few opportunities and I think a draw is a fair result for both the teams.

What did you think of your own game?

I didn’t start the first match due to a personal reason as I had to fly back to France. But physically we have worked really well during the pre-season. You could see tonight in midfield that it was a tough battle but I was still going for it and it gives me great joy to play in such an atmosphere as it helps me run and I don’t think about the mileage.

A word on Kerala fans who came to the stadium in large numbers today…

We could have scored but we didn’t so I feel sorry for the fans. I thank the Kerala fans for being there and supporting Indian football,

How has it been adjusting to Zambrotta’s style of play?

It’s very simple because I’m used to playing at a very high level. It is very demanding in terms of discipline you know physically and tactically. So you know it’s nothing different from what I have been doing all my life. So it’s very good because as a team we are progressing and we have had two away games and we have been able to pick up points and I think it’s because we all applied the game plan and now we have two home games and we hope that we win the two home games.

What message would you like to give to your Indian fans?

Well, I would like to say hello to all the football fans, all over the world. This is the Indian Super League and I am very happy and if you have the opportunity, come into an Indian stadium and support us.
