Before the match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with Bengaluru winger Kean Lewis for an exclusive interview. Here are the excerpts.
What did you make of India’s run in the AFC Asian Cup?
A lot of us were looking forward to the AFC Asian Cup because India qualified after a really long time. We had three of our players in the national team and in the starting 11. So we were really looking forward to them going into the next round. But unfortunately, that didn’t happen. They played really well against all the three teams and it’s just unfortunate that we couldn’t get the points and qualify.
Thoughts on the competition within the Bengaluru squad.
Every player wants to play in the first 11, wants to start every match, but we have a small squad here at Bengaluru FC and the competition to get into the starting 11 is really tough. I’ve been playing a few minutes in almost every match and now I’ve got a couple of matches in the starting 11. If I’m contributing a lot to the team, it means much more than starting or playing the whole 90 minutes.
Thoughts on the match against NorthEast United FC.
I think NorthEast are another tough opponent who we’ve drawn against in the previous fixture. I think it’s going to be a really tough match and until we get our three points and get into a comfortable position where we can say okay we are almost 100% sure of being in the semi-finals, I don’t think any match for us is a light match. We have to take it very seriously and we can’t be casual about going in until those three points are in the bag.
