Nigerian striker Jude Nworuh will hope to open his account for the season as Chennaiyin look to maintain their record of never being beaten by Pune in league history. While speaking with indiansuperleague.com ahead of the fixture, Nworuh sounded confident about his side’s chances of another win against the Stallions. Here are the excerpts.
What made you choose India as your next destination for football?
Well, as a footballer you never know where you’re going to be playing every year. I was so close to come to Chennai two years ago. I rejected the offer and went to Israel. I’m here now and I’m really happy to be here to play for Chennaiyin FC.
Were you surprised by the standard of the Indian Super League?
I heard a lot about Indian football. I had a good friend called Djemba-Djemba, ex-player of Chennaiyin FC. He told me a lot about the league and for me, it’s a very good standard and players also. This is good for me and I hope I can continue here.
Head coach John Gregory mentioned that your pace will be an asset for the team. What are your thoughts on that?
He knew me from before. He know what I can do. He knows what I’m good at. Hopefully I can keep it up and help the team with it.
About the next match, Chennaiyin have never lost to Pune – what are your thoughts on that?
It’s going to be a very good game, a very tough one. We know Pune, they have a very good team. We also have a very good team. We don’t think about them. We just have to continue doing our job and at the end we surely get victory.
Any message for the fans?
At the weekend, we are going to give everything to get back to winning ways. Thank you so much.
