Iain Hume heads into Atlético de Kolkata’s first-leg clash in the semi-finals of Hero Indian Super League 2016 against Mumbai City FC at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday as their top-scorer with five goals. The Canadian striker, who is also the highest scorer in league history, has fond memories of his games against Mumbai having netted his first ever professional hat-trick against them last season. It will also be his third consecutive appearance in the semis having represented Kerala Blasters FC in the first season, and he will be looking to get on the scoresheet again having also netted for Kolkata in the semi-finals against Chennaiyin FC last year. The 33-year-old spoke to indiansuperleague.com ahead of the first leg. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

What are your hopes for the semi-finals?

I am approaching it the same way we have the whole season. We have been very positive in the way we play and in the way we approach games and we know it will be tough as they are a top side, but hey, we are in it to win games and we have done the hard bit of getting to the semi-finals and now we have got to make it to the final.

Is there anything different you do for the semi-final or final?

If you do that, then you will let the nerves get the better of you and it is another game at home and another game away, so that’s how we are approaching it and we can’t let the whole situations of a semi-final get into our head. We had that problem last year and we ended up getting in trouble, so we will be going into this one level-headed and approach it as just another game.

Does it play on your mind that the only match that you have lost at home this season has come against Mumbai?

Not at all. Mumbai is the only team we lost against at home but we can’t let that loss affect us and they are a good side and in the game against us here, they had one or two good chances and they scored. So, like I said we are going to approach it as just another game and it is not going to play on our mind.

Are you looking at it as a 90-minute or 180-minute match?

In the grand scheme of things, it is a 180-minute match but we are just approaching the game as 90 minutes as that’s all we can do and not think in the grand scheme of things… Now we have big 90 minutes tomorrow and we will see what happens and how we go from there.
