FC Goa failed to earn their first clean sheet of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 as Delhi Dynamos FC came from behind to draw 1-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Wednesday. Hugo Boumous opened the scoring with his maiden Hero ISL strike before Kalu Uche struck back nine minutes from time to share the spoils. After the final whistle, indiansuperleague.com caught up with the Gaurs’ goal-scorer Boumous for his views on the game and the road ahead. Here are the excerpts.
Your thoughts on the game?
I think we deserved to win the game. We played well in the first half and also had a lot of opportunities to score another goal. When I scored the goal, everybody went behind to stop Delhi’s attack. It was difficult to win the game, but you know, it is the end of the season and everybody is tired, I think. So, it’s difficult.
Talk us through your goal.
As for my goal, I went forward with the ball and shot it towards goal. I took my chances and the ball ended up at the back of the net.
No goals were scored in the first half. What were the instructions given by the coach?
The instruction from the coach was to continue the attack and hence, the goal arrived. We could have scored two goals today or maybe three.
After Uche equalised, how determined were you to score again?
We tried to score again but as you guys saw, it wasn’t easy. They (Delhi) had a very good goalkeeper as well, so it was not easy at all. They had one or two chances to score and they scored from one of them.
What does Goa need to do differently in the upcoming games?
It was a mistake today to not get three points, so now we have to wipe off the mistakes and try and get every point if we want to enter the playoffs.
