NorthEast United FC gear up to host Chennaiyin FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday as they attempt to keep themselves in contention for a Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 playoffs berth. Under a new management headed by Avram Grant, the Highlanders were able to end their four-match losing streak before succumbing to another defeat against ATK in their previous encounter. The hosts boast a number of talented youngsters in their squad which includes 20-year-old defender Gursimrat Singh. Prior to the match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with him for his thoughts on the league and more. Here are the excerpts.

What does football mean to you?

I am playing football because that's the only thing I know. Football means everything to me. My bread and butter and the only thing I love doing.

How much does a young player like you get to learn from experienced players in the team?

We learn a lot because this is the age you learn the most. This is the time anyone can mould you and yes, I am learning a lot from the experienced coaches and the players alongside. They are teaching us well.

How does it feel to be a part of NorthEast?

It feels good. It is a passionate club with a passionate owner and so many passionate fans. It feels great to be here.

How do you feel about the season so far and has there been a change in the philosophy of the team?

After the first phase of the league, when you look at the standings, you can't judge anything because the entire second phase is left to be played. Anything can happen. As for the philosophy, we are here with a good mindset. We want to win more and more games so that we can finish in the top four.

Your take on your opposition Chennaiyin FC?

We will take them on with the same mindset. We want to win all the games and we want to win this one too. We will go there and give our 100%.

Any message for the fans?

I want to say thank you. Thank you for supporting us all the time, and I want them to come in numbers in the next game too. Come in numbers, guys!
