Reigning champions Chennaiyin FC will play hosts to Mumbai City FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday evening. The Marina Machans will be desperate to overturn their worst ever start to this ISL campaign with a win over the Islander.

Ahead of their encounter against the Islanders, Chennaiyin FC’s midfielder, Gregory Nelson, spoke exclusively to indiansuperleague.com on his thoughts on Chennaiyin’s season so far.

How is the mood in the dressing room?

The mood in the dressing room is optimistic, we know what we have to do. We know we haven’t won any games until now but we’re playing well and we know that the wins will come so we’re optimistic, we know we have to work hard, then the results will come.

Thoughts on Chennaiyin FC’s poor run despite playing well

Yes like you said, we’re playing good, I think of all the matches I think only maybe against FC Goa that they were the better team, all the other matches we were the better team, we created chances only we don’t score enough and we make some mistakes and we lose the game but we’re playing well only yes, we should score more and win the games.

Will getting your first win help the team build momentum?

Yes, of course, once we get the first win then I’m sure that the second and the third and the fourth one will come, we just need some luck to win the game and then we’ll go in an upward spiral.

How do you rate your performances so far?

The first two games we lost, I think I should do more for the team but the other three games I just got like 10 minutes, I come in, I do what I can. I had some chances, almost scored so I’m just trying to help the team and that’s it.

Thoughts on Chennaiyin FC’s good record against Mumbai City FC?

We don’t care about past results and things, we just know we want to win so we just have to work hard, play like we played the games before because we played well, and we just have to keep focused and yeah, hopefully, win the game.
