Mumbai City FC moved to fourth spot in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 after playing out a 2-2 draw against Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Friday. Izu Azuka bagged a brace for the hosts, while Thiago Santos mirrored Azuka’s effort with two goals for Mumbai. Gerson Vieira played the full match for Mumbai and had 69 touches of the ball in the match. The Brazilian – who completed eight clearances, two blocks and two interceptions in the game – spoke to indiansuperleague.com shortly after the final whistle. Here are the excerpts from the interview.
Thoughts on tonight’s match?
Yes, it was very difficult, they have a very good team and it’s always difficult to play away in the ISL but I’m very happy because we have fighting spirit and I’m very proud of my team’s performance.
How difficult was it to break down Jamshedpur’s defence?
Yes, we fought for every ball, we tried to score more, unfortunately we couldn’t reach it but yes, I’m happy because one point is better than none.
Your thoughts on the Jamshedpur defence?
As I’ve said before, they’ve got a very good team, also their coach has a very defensive posture – behaviour I mean. It is difficult to come through this but I’m happy we scored two and we are coming back with one point to Mumbai.
What is clicking for Mumbai offensively?
We have players, high-level players in front and in the attack and I think it’s because of this. And also, I have to say, our head coach is just amazing, getting us to the level we are at and we are learning a lot working with him.
