Chennaiyin FC will host FC Pune City at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. It has been a forgettable campaign for last season's champions, as they find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2018-19 table with just five points from 13 matches. With their playoff dreams over, John Gregory's men will be playing for pride in their last five league fixtures, starting with the Pune encounter.

Before the match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with Chennaiyin midfielder Germanpreet Singh for an exclusive interview. Here are the excerpts.

How was your experience playing in the AFC Asian Cup?

It was a good experience. We played against good teams and it was a great experience for youngsters. We learned a lot. Anirudh Thapa and Jeje Lalpekhlua played well against Thailand and scored as well.

What has gone wrong for Chennaiyin FC this season?

This year, our results have been bad from the start itself. We made some silly mistakes but now our entire focus is on the upcoming AFC Cup and the Super Cup. We are working hard for it.

How important are the remaining fixtures for Chennaiyin FC?

Five matches are remaining for us. So, we are focusing on these last five matches so that we can win and play in the Super Cup and the AFC Cup on a good note.

Thoughts on the new signings Halicharan Narzary and CK Vineeth.

CK Vineeth and Halicharan Narzary both are hard-working players. We played the last match together, the result wasn't great but we have a few matches in our hand and we will play well.
