Chennaiyin FC succumbed to a 1-3 defeat at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai against Bengaluru FC on Tuesday in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18. After Boithang Haokip’s early goal, the hosts equalised through Francisco Fernandes before falling short in front of Miku and Sunil Chhetri’s strikes. The 32-year-old Francisco scored his maiden Hero ISL goal but couldn’t aid his team in securing a point. After the final whistle, indiansuperleague.com caught up with him to find out his views on the fixture and here are the excerpts of the short interview.

After winning the first leg against Bengaluru, where you feeling confident coming into this one?

We believed in each other. We played well but unfortunately, we are on the losing side. But the effort was there from the team and we were unlucky. If the penalty was in, things could have been different, but it’s a part of the game. We have to bounce back in the next game.

What do you think Chennaiyin need to do to ensure a playoff spot?

We have to take it match by match. We are going into two away matches. We have to improve on what we have done wrong, do the correction, bounce back and win the matches.
