Dudu Omagbemi, who has been one of the most prolific strikers on the Indian domestic circuit, scored FC Pune City’s opening goal at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, to set his side on course for a 3-1 victory over league leaders Atlético de Kolkata. For his opener, as well as his all-action display throughout the match, Dudu was named the ‘Hero of the Match’, although the Nigerian was quick to deflect any praise, concentrating on the team ethic instead. The Nigerian, who first played in India ten years ago, has also plied his trade in Finland, Hungary and Poland, winning titles in all three countries. Dudu spoke to Indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive post-match interview.A 3-1 win in Kolkata! How do you feel at the moment?Well, I feel very good. This is my new home now and coming back here to play on my new ground is fantastic. And getting three points against the best team in the ISL is fantastic.How much of a boost has the 3-1 win against Atlético de Kolkata offered your team?You know, people never believe in FC Pune City. They think we are a weak team but today we showed what we are made of by beating the best. We can compete with the best.How do you feel about scoring the first goal here tonight?I feel fantastic. I had scored enough goals here before I left and now I’m back again to keep scoring. And I really hope I keep scoring more and more goals.Were there any special preparations made before coming to the home of the league leaders?Well, in the Indian Super League it is a different game; anybody can win against anyone. And today wasn’t tough because we played much better and got a result out of it.If you win your next match against Chennaiyin FC, you could be at the top of the table. Your thoughts on that?We just have to hold up defensively and just keep going. We need to work for the best and just keep winning.How does it feel being the Hero of the Match?I’m not here to be a hero. I’m here to win for my team and I’m glad that I came out victorious.
