Atlético de Kolkata registered their first win of the 2016 Hero Indian Super League after beating Kerala Blasters FC 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Wednesday evening. Javi Lara scored the only goal of the match in the 53rd minute. The Spaniard’s powerful shot from range took an unfortunate deflection off Sandesh Jhingan before wrong-footing Graham Stack in Kerala Blasters FC’s goal. Sameehg Doutie, who posed a constant threat for ATK on the right wing, spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the match and shared his thoughts on the game. Here are the excerpts from the interview.Massive three points away from home. What are your thoughts on the game?We put up a good fight. It’s very difficult, we travelled one day, came in yesterday. And today the boys showed fighting spirit as a unit. But sometimes the ball skidded off the ground because the outfield was wet… The desire to win was there today and we came away with the three points.Your team seemed to be dominant in midfield. Is that something you have been working on?We didn’t work on anything as such in the one day of training yesterday. We just stretched our legs for the whole day, but the guys came today and everybody fought. You could see we were tired but the heart was there, the desire to win the game. So we came with three points. Was it difficult to play in a packed stadium away from home?We created our chances. I think in the final third, we could have been more clinical and could have finished the game in the first half. Now we have at least 3-4 days to prepare, to work on our mistakes, where we went wrong. In some places, there is always room for improvement and we will practice it out on the training ground.
