Dhanachandra Singh

Left back Dhanachandra Singh has played a part in all of Chennaiyin FC’s seven matches in the Hero Indian Super League and has acquitted himself quite creditably too. The versatile Manipuri defender began his career with Air India and has also played for Churchill Brothers, Prayag United and Mohun Bagan. A former winner of the Durand Cup and IFA Shield with Churchill Brothers, Dhanachandra believes that his side should have won today’s game against FC Pune City comfortably. Here are some excerpts from an exclusive interview that he had with indiansuperleague.com post the match:

What do you have to say about your team’s comeback from a goal down?

We tried really hard to equalise and after that we worked really hard to dominate the game. We were really out of luck today because so many of our shots hit the post and the crossbar, Elano also missed his penalty, but we dominated and should’ve won the game.

What did you have to say about Elano’s penalty miss, did the game change because of that?

As Elano was taking the penalty I knew it was going to be a goal for sure because he has never missed in the league, he’s the top scorer with eight goals. So I was really confident that he was going to score. Even when he missed we thought that we can still come back in this game.

You are in the top half of the table, what’s lies ahead for Chennaiyin FC?

In the first leg of the group stage, we played really well and we want to take this form and confidence into the second leg. We will try to win every game and reach the final.

How do you feel about your performance in today’s game?

I wasn’t very satisfied with my performance today because my crossing wasn’t so good and I don’t think I’m playing up to my full potential.
