Jamshedpur FC play their first match of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 season against newcomers Odisha FC at the JRD TATA Sports Complex in Jamshedpur. The team will hope to secure an important home victory to get them going in the competition, but they do expect a tough competition.

Key to their success will be striker Sergio Castel. The Spanish striker, on loan from Atletico Madrid’s B team, will hope to create an instant impact when he takes to the field on Tuesday. Speaking to indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive interview, the 24-year-old striker spoke about his new club, playing in the Hero ISL for the first time, and the importance of the fans. Here are a few excerpts from the interview

Mood in Jamshedpur FC camp ahead of the match against Odisha FC

My impression is that we have developed a lot. Everything was very different in the beginning; we were almost like a new team, with new players and a new coach (Antonio Iriondo). His ideas are different from the way we used to play before and now we’re getting it. I think we have improved a lot and we are ready for the first game.

On your reasons for opting to play in the Hero ISL

I came to India because this is a new opportunity for me. I knew the coach from Spain, Mr. Antonio (Iriondo). They told me he is very good, and his way of playing will help me improve my football (skills) and learn from the coach. That is why I came here.

On the Spanish contingent in the Jamshedpur FC setup

Yes, it was easier because we have a lot of Spanish people in the team; the coach, the staff, the players Tiri, Piti, Noe (Acosta), Aitor (Monroy), so it was easy for me to be a part of this team. We are very close to each other. We always play what you call Ludo. We go for dinner and lunch together and are very close. I’m very happy with the Indian players as well. They’re my friends so it’s not a problem for me to blend in with them.

Any message for Jamshedpur FC fans ahead of the match?

We need them to be our 12th man on the pitch. I think we are going to win this game and we want to play good football for them.
