Carlos Pena: It’s a tough defeat for us

FC Goa suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2018-19 final as Rahul Bheke scored in Extra Time to win Bengaluru FC the title at the Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday. The Gaurs matched the Blues for almost the entirety of the match, but a red card to Ahmed Jahouh in the first period of Extra Time shifted the momentum of the match in the decisive moments.

After the match, a disappointed Carlos Pena shared his thoughts on the match from the Goa camp. Here's what the defender had to say.

Thoughts on the match.

Well, I think it’s a tough defeat for us. We had been working a lot during the match but in a set-piece, we conceded a goal. I think football today has not been fair to us.

What do you think went wrong for FC Goa?

I think sometimes, you don't do anything wrong and you lose, like today. We have lost one player in the first half of Extra Time. I think it was not fair. I think the referee didn’t make a good decision and we had to defend the whole second half without one player, but I’m very proud of this team. I'm very proud of my teammates, of all the staff and we will keep on going.

A word on the fans.

Yes, this defeat is very hard because they are here. They have travelled a lot of kilometres to support us and we have lost, but this is football. We have to learn from that. We have to be ready for the next season.
