Spanish midfielder Bruno Herrero Arias has been one of the standout performers of the Hero Indian Super League so far, cutting a composed figure in the Delhi Dynamos midfield. Like many of the accomplished central midfielders who hail from his native country, Arias relies on his short, quick passing and exemplary vision to keep the Delhi attack ticking. On the eve of his side’s game against Kerala Blasters, www.indiansuperleague.com caught up with the diminutive Spaniard for an exclusive interview regarding his ISL experience. How is the season going so far?The short break between games is difficult but the players are coping. We started two months ago, and we play very well now. What do you think of the physical nature of the ISL?Dealing with the physicality is okay, but the main focus has to be on developing technically and tactically.Who do you think has been your toughest opponent?Atlético de Kolkata. But the quality of all teams is high. You are rated the best passer in the league so far, in terms of the number of completed passes. What do you focus on in training?Really! I didn’t know that. I just focus on doing things that will help the team win. That’s the main focus for me and for everyone.Which player has influenced your playing style the most?Xavi Hernandez. The best thing I like about him is that he is a player who always wants the ball. And he always has an option. Andres Iniesta is similar. I also like Seydou Keita. Pep Guardiola once said of him, “This player is the best person in the world.” That’s very important to me, to be a good person as well.
