FC Goa edged a transformed Jamshedpur FC unit 2-1 in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Thursday. Brandon Fernandes was at the heart of the action and supplied Lanzarote with the assist for the winner as Goa climbed back into the top four places. While speaking to indiansuperleague.com after the game, Fernandes opened up regarding his third assist of the season and the team’s performance. Here are the excerpts.

Thoughts on the game?

It was a very difficult game. Jamshedpur are a very strong team. We came with a plan, we executed it very well and we’re happy with the three points.

Did Jamshedpur’s attack surprise Goa?

No, Jamshedpur have a strong defence and today twice we were up by a goal. They had to come to attack and that’s what they did. But we kept our composure and concentrated on our plan and we did really well against them.

How much did the penalty decision affect the game?

It was very important for us to get the lead, and getting a penalty and converting it and going 1-0 up was a game changer for us.

Thoughts on your assist.

When I get the ball, my first aim is to pass to the striker and Lanzarote was open, so I just passed the ball to him.

How would you rate your performance so far?

My performance has been good. I still need to improve on different aspects. I’ll work on it and by the end of the season, I’ll be on top of my game.

What are your thoughts on your team’s performance this season?

It’s been really good. There have been ups and downs. I think we were down, we worked on it and now we’re back to winning ways.
