Borges: NorthEast taking Mumbai tie as a final

Rowllin Borges will be hoping for his eighth start of Hero Indian Super League 2016 when NorthEast United FC host Mumbai City FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday evening. The 24-year-old has become an integral member in NorthEast's midfield having grown into the role of a defensive shield that protects the Highlanders' backline. Borges also has a passing accuracy of 83% and has completed eight successful tackles, 11 clearances, 12 blocks and 13 interceptions in Hero ISL 2016. The India international spoke to indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive chat ahead of his side's clash against Mumbai. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

The Highlanders have created a lot of chances but conversion has been up to scratch. How are you planning to change that?

We have been playing well throughout and we have created a lot of chances. In a few matches we were unlucky not to convert them into goals but we are trying our best to convert the chances.

How motivated is the team for Saturday's match?

The team is very motivated and everyone is more involved in practice and also after practice we are motivating each other to win this match

What do you think has been missing in the last two matches?

I think we played well but in the last two matches we were unlucky not to convert our chances, I think nothing really, every player gave their 100% and I don't think any player played badly or anything like that.

How do you rate your opposition?

They're a good side and they're in the top 4 of the table, so it will be a good match.

How important is Saturday's match for Northeast's season?

As I told before every match is like a final, so tomorrow is a final, so we'll give everything we have.

NorthEast have scored six goals, out of which five have been scored by your striker Alfaro, so do you think NorthEast are too reliant on him?

He's a striker and he's doing his job and that is to score goals and every single player is trying, not only him, but let's hope we get a few more scorers in the coming matches.
