Arindam Bhattacharya slipped from number one to four on the Golden Glove chart following FC Pune City’s 3-1 loss to Chennaiyin FC on at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. A win would have lifted Pune to the top of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) standings but a couple of deflected goals saw the goalkeeper concede thrice on the night. A winner of the Best Goalkeeper award for the 2008-09 I-League season, Bhattacharya had conceded only two goals prior to this encounter. In an exclusive post-match interview with indiansuperleague.com, Bhattacharya spoke about the Golden Glove as he highlighted the importance of winning the league rather than bagging the individual prize. Arindam, your thoughts on the game against Chennaiyin FC?It was a tough match! It was an away match to Chennai and they’re one of the best teams in the ISL. I think we were a little unlucky with the two deflected goals but the boys worked really hard. We tried our best but it just wasn’t our day, I guess. You’ve held the Golden Glove till this match. How do you feel about that?Honestly, I don’t really care about the Golden Glove. I just want to win the match and win the tournament. Let someone else get the Golden Glove. I want to win the league.Where do you think the game was won or lost for your side?I think it was just for a second or two that the guys held back; it was just for a moment and we lost the match.Going forward, how do you think your team can improve tactically?I don’t know much about that. That’s the coach’s decision. What’s the road ahead for FC Pune City?We haven’t done badly. We’re still doing well. We have one away match against FC Goa (Sunday, 22 November). That will be a very important match and we hope we can win it.How has the ISL improved your form as a goalkeeper? It has improved my form greatly and I believe it’s very important to keep clean sheets as a goalkeeper. The Golden Glove did give me some confidence and I have to keep saving goals.
