Chennaiyin FC take on ATK in a tough home fixture in the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday. The two-time champions have just one point from two matches so far and will hope that their fortunes turn against ATK.

Ahead of the crunch tie, Maltese forward Andre Schembri spoke to indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive interview. Here are excerpts from the interview

Chennaiyin FC produced a resolute performance against Mumbai City FC. How does it help the team’s morale?

I think we had a very positive performance against Mumbai City FC. Unfortunately, we did not win the game. We are looking forward for the next game.

ATK will be flying high after their 5-0 win in their last match. Any special plans to blunt their attack?

We have to play our game. We have to believe in ourselves and have to try and perform from the first minute.

Expectations from the season.

After last years’ disappointment, we have to have a successful season this year. It is not going to be easy, because this team is new but hopefully, we will have a very good season.

What do you think is missing in the final third for Chennaiyin FC this year?

In my opinion, we have to learn as players. We have to learn when to pass and when to shoot, that is the biggest problem we have at the moment.

What are your impressions of the league so far, and how demanding is it for you?

This week was very intense because in one week we have to play three games. But I look forward to more games, and hopefully we will have a successful season.

Which youngster in the team has impressed you the most?

We have a lot of youngsters in our team I think it is unfair to say just name one. They all have potential but, in the end, it is up to them to fulfil their potential. There are different elements they have to learn, certain new things, to fulfil their potential.
