An action-packed match week 5 of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 concluded on Sunday and brought with it plenty of goals, drama and heated incidences. Goa rode their Spanish formula to success and rose to the top of the league on goal-difference, while both of last year’s finalists notched up their first win of the season. Here are the results of the week gone by, and some of the key talking points.
Match 23: FC Pune City 1 – 3 Bengaluru FC (Match Report)
Match 24: Kerala Blasters FC 1 – 0 NorthEast United FC (Match Report)
Match 25: Delhi Dynamos FC 1 – 5 FC Goa (Match Report)
Match 26: Bengaluru FC 1 - 2 Chennaiyin FC (Match Report)
Match 27: Mumbai City FC 0 - 1 ATK (Match Report)
Goa’s Spanish contingent keep doing wonders: While Ferran Corominas and Manuel Lanzarote were at it once more for the Gaurs against Delhi Dynamos FC, this time fellow Spaniards Adrian Colunga (who scored on his debut) and Manuel Arana also helped themselves in a scoring spree. Even all the assists came from Spaniards, as the Lions succumbed to their fourth successive defeat.

A heated turn of events as players see red: Three red cards were shown in the first three matches of the week. Pune’s Baljit Sahni got sent off for seeing two yellows against the Blues, while NorthEast custodian TP Rehenesh saw a straight red for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity to Kerala’s Mark Sifneos. Delhi defender Gabriel Cichero got sent off for a second bookable offence against Goa. All the teams who had gone down to 10 men ended up on the losing side.
Hero ISL 2016 finalists secure maximum points: Both Kerala Blasters FC and ATK picked up their first wins of the campaign by 1-0 score-lines. Kerala’s local boy CK Vineeth headed in his team’s winner against NorthEast while ATK’s target-man Robin Singh ensured all three points away to Mumbai.
Bengaluru’s perfect home record comes to an end: Jeje Lalpekhlua and Dhanpal Ganesh scored the goals for Chennaiyin as they inflicted a first home defeat on Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. The Blues, who played twice this week, had beaten Pune City in their first fixture. With the defeat, they lost their top of the table status to Goa owing to the Gaurs’ superior goal difference.

Teams make good use of their trips: Four out of the five fixtures saw away teams securing the win. Bengaluru FC, FC Goa, Chennaiyin FC and ATK all won away from home, while Kerala Blasters remained the only team to have recorded a home win this week.
