1) Alaaeddine Ajaraie (NorthEast United FC)
If there’s one player everyone’s talking about, it’s Alaaeddine Ajaraie. The NorthEast United FC striker has been on a tear, scoring 11 goals in just eight games. The Moroccan has literally scored in every match so far, equalling a league record, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.
What’s really impressive about Ajaraie is his versatility. Not only does he put the ball in the net, but he’s also contributed four assists. That all-around game is exactly why Ajaraie isn’t just leading the Golden Boot race; he’s setting the pace. His ability to find gaps, exploit defences, and link up with his teammates makes him one of the most complete forwards we’ve seen in the ISL this season.
2) Armando Sadiku (FC Goa)
Hot on Ajaraie’s heels is Armando Sadiku, the man who’s helping FC Goa find their groove this season. With eight goals in seven games, Sadiku has scored in every game he’s played, putting him on the brink of equalling Kalu Uche’s eight-match record for the longest scoring run.
His goals have been clutch, coming at times when FC Goa needed them the most. They’ve propelled Goa up the standings, securing them back-to-back wins. The former Mohun Bagan Super Giant striker’s relentless drive, combined with his knack for scoring cluth goals, makes him a serious threat. If he keeps up this form, Ajaraie might need to start looking over his shoulder.
3) Wilmar Jordan Gil (Chennaiyin FC)
Chennaiyin FC’s Wilmar Jordan Gil has taken the league by storm in a short span. Despite starting only five games, he’s netted six goals in just 425 minutes, giving him a lethal scoring rate of 0.75 goals per game.
Gil has made full use of the service from teammates like Irfan Yadwad, Vincy Barretto, and Connor Shields, proving he knows exactly where to be when the ball is in the box. With Chennaiyin FC building their attack around the Colombian, Gil could very well be in the thick of the Golden Boot race by season’s end.
4) Jesus Jimenez (Kerala Blasters FC)
There’s Kerala Blasters FC forward Jesus Jimenez whose efficiency in front of goal has been nothing short of impressive. Six goals in eight games might seem modest compared to Ajaraie’s numbers, but Jimenez is making the most of every chance he gets. In fact, he’s only taken eight shots on target this season, giving him a conversion rate of 35.79%. That’s precision finishing at its finest.
His chemistry with teammates Noah Sadaoui and Adrian Luna has only added to his effectiveness and Kerala Blasters FC fans have every reason to believe he’ll stay in the mix for the top scorer title despite their mixed form this season. For now, Jimenez is quietly going about his business and it’s paying off.
5) Nikolaos Karelis (Mumbai City FC)
Mumbai City FC’s new signing Nikolaos Karelis has turned into a bit of a secret weapon for the Islanders. With five goals in seven games, Karelis has a habit of striking first, setting the tempo for his team whenever he finds the net.
His ability to score from both set pieces and open play makes him a versatile threat, and his partnership with Lallianzuala Chhangte and Yoell van Nieff has been key to his success. Karelis may not be topping the charts just yet, but with his knack for regularly getting Mumbai City FC off the mark, he’s one to watch as the season goes on.
