Kerala Blasters FC’s brand new addition Sanchez Watt has told fans that he hasn’t come to the Hero Indian Super League just for participation. The former Arsenal youth academy product spoke about both his and Kerala’s ambitions ahead of the second season of the ISL in an exclusive interview with indiansuperleague.com. “Of course I didn’t come here just to play football, to have a good time and meet people. I want to go back to England saying, ‘I’ve won it’. Hopefully, [I] even come back one day. The only objective is to win it and obviously I want to win the Hero of the League award. I want to help my team win and score some goals,” the 24-year-old versatile English winger said.Watt, who is equally comfortable on the wings and up front, believes the ISL can act as a perfect launching pad for his career after witnessing the resounding success of the league in its inaugural season. “Well, basically it’s about the fans and a new experience and obviously to hear about last year’s success of the league, I decided it will be something that will be just right for me,” he said.Having spent the majority of his younger years under the tutelage of legendary Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger, the fleet-footed attacker is sure to offer the Kerala-based outfit some much-needed attacking incision in the final third. The youngster spent 10 years honing his skills with the Gunners and he credits his former coach and mentor with his overall development as a player. The youngster recalled fond memories of his interaction with his gaffer in North-London. “It was the best experience for me, I learned a lot. Obviously he [Wenger] has a busy schedule but he’ll treat every player the same and I had a lot of one-to-one sessions with him, talking and learning about football and outside football life, so it’s priceless basically,” Watt reminisced. When asked about what were his expectations heading into Season 2 and whether he had done his research about the league before making up his mind to come to India, Watt said: “Yeah I did my research, looked it up. Obviously [Michael] Chopra was here and that’s a player well known in England and to see that how many fans turned out, that means the passion is crazy over here, so it’s good and the games were tight because it goes to the knockout stage and [there is] a lot of 1-0 or 2-1 wins, so I knew it will be great.”Kerala Blasters FC kick start their campaign at home against NorthEast United FC on October 6.
