Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, on Monday, was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award by the Government of India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The recognition is a glowing testament to the India international and Bengaluru FC star’s excellence in his discipline, both for club and country.

Since the announcement, the 27-year-old has been showered with widespread praise from all corners of the country, with teammates and fans raising a toast to the grit and perseverance of the ace custodian. Gurpreet has been one of the standout performers in Indian football for a while now, constantly putting in match-winning performances and displaying inherent leadership skills.

India legend and Gurpreet’s long-time friend Sunil Chhetri, who was an Arjuna Awardee back in 2011, applauded his teammate on the accolade with some warm words. The two have been playing together for club and country for a few years now, and thus have an innate understanding of each other’s contributions to the game.

Several other Indian players, too, took to Twitter to congratulate the Hero ISL 2018-19 Golden Glove winner for the Arjuna Award.

The Government of Punjab – the state Gurpreet hails from – also extended their wishes to their local hero.

Journalists and fans also joined in and shared their wishes on social media.

Meanwhile, the man of the moment, humbled by the warmth and affection, came out to extend his gratitude to everyone.
