Hailing from the family that has run Dempo SC for over 50 years with great success, and as a major player on the Indian football scene for decades, it was only natural that Shrinivas Dempo would be associated with the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) by virtue of becoming a co-owner of FC Goa.However, football isn't merely a business for the Goan entrepreneur. It is more of a passion, as he explains to indiansuperleague.com.“For me, being part of the ISL was just because of my passion for football. After surviving for 50 years in Indian football, we thought that this tournament will give us a more substantial platform and allow us to work better towards promoting football on a larger scale,” said Dempo, on the sidelines of an FC Goa event in the city."We also need more infrastructure upgradation in the country"Shrinivas DempoDempo feels that the league, which begins on October 12, needs to, and will, evolve over time, and can create a positive impact on football in the country.“I feel that the league, eventually, should be a little longer. We also need more infrastructure upgradation in the country. If the ISL keeps getting in more football people like Zico and others, and focuses on grassroots development, we can surely keep upping the level of football in India. That's what the league aims to do,” he explained.Dempo exuded confidence and satisfaction about the outcome of his endeavour before signing off. “We firmly believe in football, and have great confidence in the game. I'm sure that with the kind of support we will receive from IMG-Reliance, the ISL, and the All India Football Federation, this will turn out to be a success.”
