NorthEast United FC forward Parthib Gogoi has been on a remarkable journey since making his first appearance in the Indian Super League (ISL) in October 2022. Despite being just 20 years old, Gogoi has already made a significant impact for the Highlanders and is well on his way to becoming a future superstar.

Hailing from the small town of Sivasagar in Assam, Gogoi's passion for football was instilled by his father at a very young age. His talent first came to light when he represented Assam in a tournament held in New Delhi, where his exceptional skills caught the attention of the selectors of the Indian U-16 team.

His unwavering dedication and remarkable abilities continued to shine as he later joined the Indian Arrows and participated in the SAFF under-20 competitions, ultimately earning him a place in the NorthEast United FC side ahead of the ISL 2022-23 season.

In his debut season with NorthEast United FC in the ISL, Gogoi experienced a breakthrough year, making 18 appearances, scoring three goals, and providing one assist. This promising winger-forward has carried his excellent form into the current season, beginning with a standout performance in the Durand Cup. In that competition, he achieved a significant milestone by scoring his first-ever hat-trick against Shillong Lajong FC.

Gogoi's abilities have been on full display in the ongoing ISL season, as he has found the back of the net in both the opening two matches.

To have a better understanding of his rise to prominence, let's delve into some of the key statistics that highlight his progress.

  • The goal against Chennaiyin FC was Parthib Gogoi’s fourth goal from outside the box in the Indian Super League; in fact, since his debut in the 2022/23 season, no other player has scored more such goals in the league.
  • Only Bartholomew Ogbeche (11), Marcelinho (eight), Greg Stewart & Diego Mauricio (seven each), Javi Hernandez (six) and Adrian Luna & Elano (five each) have scored more goals from outside the box in the history of the Indian Super League than Gogoi (four).

  • 80% of Parthib Gogoi’s five goals in the Indian Super League have come from outside the box, only Paul Ramfangzauva (100%) has had a better such rate by any player to have scored a minimum of three goals from outside the box.

The journey doesn't end here for this young prodigy. He stands on the brink of adding a couple more records to his name when they face Punjab FC on Friday.

  • By scoring against Chennaiyin FC, he became just the third player to score in three consecutive Indian Super League games for NorthEast United FC, after Wilmar Jordan and Bartholomew Ogbeche; and if he scores in his side’s third game of the season, Gogoi will surpass them to become the player with the longest goal-scoring streak for the Highlanders (four games).
  • A goal against Punjab FC will also see Gogoi becoming just the fifth player to score in his side’s opening three games of an ISL season and the first to do so for NorthEast United FC.

His recent performances unquestionably position him as a rising star in Indian football. With remarkable skills and significant contributions to NorthEast United FC, he has become a player worth watching closely. If he continues to develop and reaches his full potential, expect him to emerge as the next sensation in Indian football in the coming years.
