Joffre: FC Goa's diminutive Spanish maestro
default
A Hero ISL winner with Atlético de Kolkata in the inaugural season of the Hero ISL, diminutive Spanish playmaker Joffre did his reputation no harm in Hero ISL 2015 with runners-up FC Goa. The elegant playmaker’s ability to mesmerise defenders with his quick feet and close control posed a constant threat.
After showing us a glimpse of his talent with ATK during their title-winning season in which he scored once and provided two assists, Joffre took the league by storm last year as donned the role of FC Goa’s midfield architect. He effortlessly linked up the midfield with defence besides frequently dancing past the opposition with fancy footwork. Technically gifted, he is also a threat from set-pieces, both in terms of scoring as well as distribution.
He made four assists and scored four times for FC Goa last season with his most memorable performance coming in the Gaurs’ last league match against Delhi Dynamos FC. In what was one of the games of the season, Joffre burst into life in the capital city as he spearheaded a stunning late comeback to help the Gaurs beat the Lions in a 3-2 thriller. After being 2-0 down at half-time, Joffre took the game by the scruff of its neck to help his team cancel out the deficit by the 70th minute and then went on to score a 90th-minute winner to send FC Goa fans into raptures. Both Zico and the passionate supporters of FC Goa will be hoping Joffre starts the upcoming season in the same way as he ended the last.
