When two superstars are present at one place at the same time, there is bound to be a lot of excitement. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai became one such happy place when fans were treated to the sight of India’s best known film doyens, Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth. The two actors were in attendance to root for Chennaiyin FC, and seemed visibly thrilled at the end result of the home team beating Kerala Blasters FC 2-1.Amitabh Bachchan was, of course, expected to be there to support his son Abhishek who is the co-owner of the Chennai ISL club. In an exclusive chat with indiansuperleague.com, the senior Bachchan was all praise for the league. “It has been a fantastic initiative by the ISL and Star Sports; and by all the franchises that have taken part,” he said.“So far football has been somewhat of a dormant sport in India and quite hidden as far as the interest in the game is concerned. You see so many people on the street (playing it),” he added."I am very excited that a league like this has come to India."RajinikanthMuch worshipped and idolised by his adoring fans, Rajinikanth came to the Chennai stadium to encourage lovers of the game and to offer his support to his hometown club.“I have always been a football fan. I am very excited that a league like this has come to India. It should definitely become very famous like cricket,” said the megastar.“The response is actually something unexpected and I never imagined such a good response but football in Chennai is amazing.” The humble star even wants football to take over as India’s second sport. With two of the biggest thespians pledging their support to football in India, the sport has been given an unprecedented push and can only get better from here.
