The inaugural season of the Hero Indian Super League witnessed 129 goals, each one oozing quality. Of the many stunning strikes, one stood out. League leaders Chennaiyin FC were on the back foot against a resilient Kerala Blasters FC, who had managed to find a leveller. With time ticking down, it looked as though the game would end in a draw. Defender Bernard Mendy had other ideas. He drove into the box, watched the ball bound up into the air above his head and then leaped and executed a perfect bicycle kick from a few yards out that flew past David James in goal. The accuracy, power and angle from which Mendy managed to get the ball past the veteran Englishman was inch-perfect, and sparked off wild celebrations in the Chennaiyin camp.

 Both fans and players will fondly remember Mendy’s magic moment as one of the highlights of the tournament. The fact that the goal would prove to be the winner for Marco Materazzi’s side was just the icing on the cake.
