Goalkeeper
Hrithik Tiwari (FC Goa)
Tiwari made nine crucial saves, helping FC Goa concede just one goal in the two matches they played against NorthEast United FC and East Bengal FC. His performance in the game against East Bengal FC was particularly impressive, as he helped the Gaurs secure a crucial win in a nervy game, which helped them move up to second in the standings.
Defenders
Abhishek Singh (Punjab FC)
Singh did a terrific job as full-back despite Punjab FC being held to a draw against Mumbai City FC in a cagey contest. He nullified the threat from Vikram Partap Singh down the left flank and made four crucial interceptions.
Stephen Eze (Jamshedpur FC)
Eze made the headlines in Jamshedpur FC’s 1-1 draw against Mohun Bagan SG thanks to his dazzling solo goal. He made a brilliant run from the halfway line, ran past the entire opposition defense, and finished with power. Eze also made three tackles and six interceptions, which were crucial in restricting the leaders to just one goal.
Sandesh Jhingan (FC Goa)
Jhingan made an impressive 25 clearances across two games. He made 14 clearances and misplaced just three of his 32 passes against NorthEast United FC, who only managed to score once against the Gaurs. The FC Goa captain upped his game in their following clash against East Bengal FC, making 11 clearances and completing all of his 68 passes. His efforts helped FC Goa register a win and a clean sheet, coming after five games.
Subhasish Bose (Mohun Bagan Super Giant & Captain)
Bose put in a terrific defensive performance, recording six tackles, three interceptions, and as many clearances against Jamshedpur FC. He also scored his fourth goal of the season from close range and was one of the best players for his team on the pitch despite being held to a draw against Jamshedpur FC.
Midfielders
Brison Fernandes (FC Goa)
Fernandes registered an attacking return in both of FC Goa’s games in Matchweek 17. He provided the assist for Mohammad Yasir’s goal against NorthEast United FC and contributed defensively, making three tackles and two clearances. He followed that up with three tackles against East Bengal FC and scored an early goal, which proved to be the winner in the end. The youngster also created four crucial chances for his side.
Javi Hernandez (Jamshedpur FC)
Hernandez controlled the midfield for Jamshedpur FC as they held Mohun Bagan SG to a draw. He supplied the assist for Eze’s goal and also contributed defensively against his former side, making two tackles and as many clearances as the hosts restricted the Mariners to one goal.
Connor Shields (Chennaiyin FC)
Shields recorded two assists in Chennaiyin FC’s draw against Mohammedan SC, further adding to his assist tally this season. While the first one came from a corner, the second was from open play, a simple pass to Lukas Brambilla, who scored a well-taken goal. The Chennaiyin FC forward tops the charts for assists this season and is enjoying a fine campaign.
Forwards
Manvir Singh (Mohammedan SC)
Singh came on around the 60th-minute mark and made a real difference, scoring a goal off the bench, which was his debut ISL goal for Mohammedan SC. He injected pace and energy since coming on and formed a telepathic understanding with the likes of Franca and Lalremsanga Fanai.
Sunil Chhetri (Bengaluru FC)
It was Chhetri’s goal that saved the Blues from embarrassment as they scored a late equalizer to snatch a point from Hyderabad FC. Chhetri was caught offside twice earlier but made the most of his opportunity later on when he scored a powerful, deft header that found the top corner.
Kwame Peprah (Kerala Blasters FC)
Forward Peprah contributed offensively and defensively, helping the Blasters beat Odisha FC and then hold NorthEast United FC to a draw. Peprah got on the scoresheet in their first game of the Matchweek while creating four chances. His attacking threat helped the Blasters secure a crucial comeback win.
The Ghanaian blanked in the following game against NorthEast United FC but gave his all on the pitch, especially defensively after they went down to 10 men in the first half. He made six crucial clearances, contributing to their clean sheet and the point earned.
Coach: TG Purushothaman (Kerala Blasters FC)
Kerala Blasters FC's interim coach Purushothaman faced Odisha FC and NorthEast United FC, two of the best attacking sides this season, and did a brilliant job helping the Blasters register four points from these two games. His substitutions in both games were key, first when they conceded against Odisha FC but rallied to win, and in the following game, when the Blasters were under pressure after a red card in the first half. Purushothaman formulated a great game plan and ensured his team neutralized the threat from the Highlanders, coming off with a point and a clean sheet.
