ISL 2024-25: Key takeaways from Matchweek 20
A total of 17 goals were scored in four games with a cracking average of 4.25 goals per match.

Matchweek 20 of the Indian Super League (ISL) has been momentary, given only four games being played involving eight teams, as the rest of the five teams were out of action.
Two out of four home teams found themselves on the winning side this week, while only one game ended up on level terms. A total of 17 goals were scored in four games with a cracking average of 4.25 goals per match.
The matchweek kicked off with Punjab FC's resilient victory against Bengaluru FC in New Delhi. Later that day, Mohun Bagan Super Giant eased past city rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Kolkata derby.
The following game saw Jamshedpur FC steer past FC Goa, banking on their strong fan support at the Furnace. To wrap up this week, Odisha FC fought back against NorthEast United FC to salvage a point on their home turf.
As another brand-new matchweek is just around the corner, here are the key takeaways from this week of action.
Bengaluru FC's winless streak continues
Once considered the top contenders for winning the ISL League Shield this season, Bengaluru FC have been experiencing a dip in their form, resulting in their playoff qualification also being at stake. Since their last win in December, the Blues are winless in their last six matches as they managed to get just a single point in the entire month of January.
Gerard Zaragoza's men opened the scoring against Punjab FC thanks to Edgar Mendez's presence inside the opponent's box. However, the Shers were quick to respond as they scored two goals courtesy of Asmir Suljic's penalty kick and Filip Mrzljak's first-time strike.
Despite Rahul Bheke scoring the equaliser in the 92nd minute, Luka Majcen restored the lead for the hosts with his injury-time goal, resulting in Punjab FC snapping their seven-game winless run.
Mohun Bagan SG dominance in Kolkata derby
Mohun Bagan SG continued their supremacy in the high-octane Kolkata derby, as they remain unbeaten in this fixture in the ISL. Captain Subhasish Bose and Manvir Singh struck twice each as the Mariners recorded a thumping victory over the Black and White Brigade in Saturday's doubleheader.
Following this win, Jose Molina's men further increased the gap at the top as they inches closer to the League Shield.
Jamshedpur FC end FC Goa's 12-game unbeaten run
Javier Siverio's brace inspired Jamshedpur FC to a stunning victory over FC Goa at the Furnace. With the 3-1 win, Khalid Jamil became the first manager to record a league double over Manolo Marquez in the ISL, having won the reverse fixture 2-1.
The Men of Steel displayed a spirited performance in front of their home crowd, stunning the high-flying Gaurs, who were coming off a 12-game unbeaten run. Moreover, Jamil's men also stretched their unbeaten home run to six games following this result.
NorthEast United FC drop points from winning position again
Alaaeddine Ajaraie's sublime second-half brace helped NorthEast United FC take the lead twice against Odisha FC. However, Isak Vanlalruatfela's off-the-bench cameo propelled the hosts to bounce back twice in the game as the Kalinga Warriors salvaged a point in a highly intensified draw.
With this, the Highlanders have now dropped a total of 16 points from winning position in the ISL 2024-25 season. Notably, this is the highest tally by any team in this regard in the league.
