Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan will battle for the prestigious Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) trophy when the two sides face off in the grand finale of the 2020-21 campaign at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa on Saturday. Ahead of the much-awaited encounter, fans were asked to choose their favourite eleven players from both the finalists and the response was nothing shorting of overwhelming on social media. Here, check out fans’ combined XI from both the participants in the grand finale.    

Amrinder Singh

Amrinder Singh has 10 clean sheets to his name, and has been one of the Islanders’ best players this season. He beat current Golden Glove leader Arindam Bhattacharja of ATK Mohun Bagan to the goalkeeping spot in the combined XI. It will be interesting to see if he can also beat Arindam to the Golden Glove trophy.   

Pritam Kotal

The Mariners have had the best defence so far this season and Pritam Kotal has undoubtedly been an important mainstay. He has made 77 clearances and 70 tackles this season and even scored once for his side. The India international beat Amey Ranawade to the spot.

Mourtada Fall

Mourtada Fall edged Sandesh Jhingan to secure a spot in the combined XI. He has 128 clearances to his names, and has also scored four goals for his side so far this season, including in Semi-final 1, first-leg. Fall’s passing accuracy of 84.12% was also key to Mumbai City FC’s success this season.

Tiri

Tiri has formed a strong partnership in the ATK Mohun Bagan defence alongside Sandesh Jhingan and Pritam Kotal this season. In 20 matches so far, he has made 130 clearances and also bagged two assists. The Spanish defender beat Hernan Santana to make it to the combined XI.

Javier Hernandez

In 16 matches this season so far, Javier Hernandez has scored a goal and assisted another for ATK Mohun Bagan. He is also an able defensive presence for his side, having made 45 tackles and 17 interceptions. Fans voted for the Spaniard ahead of Raynier Fernandes.

Rowllin Borges

Rowllin Borges is a defensive as well as offensive threat in the Mumbai City FC ranks. In addition to his two goals and an assist, Borges made 79 tackles for his team and has a strong passing accuracy of 82.46%. He was chosen ahead of another experienced Indian midfielder, Lenny Rodrigues.

Ahmed Jahouh

Ahmed Jahouh has been the fruitful link between Mumbai City FC’s midfield and attack this season. The 32-year-old Moroccan midfielder has assisted five goals for the Islanders this season, and his 165 tackles is the most by any player. He was chosen ahead of Carl McHugh.

David Williams     

David Williams makes it to the combined XI ahead of Bipin Singh, with the Australian forward helping his side into the season finale. Williams has five goals and two assists for the Mariners this season, and after two goals in either leg of Semi-final 2, he is one of the players to watch out for in the grand finale.

Roy Krishna

The Fijian is among ATK Mohun Bagan’s best players, and the striker will look to add to his 14 goals on Saturday to win the Golden Boot award as well as help his team to the coveted Hero ISL trophy. Roy Krishna also bagged seven assists, including three in the semi-finals. He was chosen ahead of Adam le Fondre.

Hugo Boumous

Mumbai City FC’s biggest creative presence this season has been Hugo Boumous, with the midfielder scoring three goals and assisting seven for the Islanders so far. He also scored in the first leg of their semi-final clash against FC Goa and beat Edu Garcia to the spot in the combined XI.      

Bartholomew Ogbeche

Bartholomew Ogbeche has been an able threat in front of goal for the Islanders whenever called upon by Sergio Lobera. He has eight goals and two assists to his name this season, and has scored twice against ATK Mohun Bagan over the course of the league stage. The striker beat Manvir Singh to this team.

Head Coach: Sergio Lobera

Sergio Lobera has established himself as a clear fan favourite with Mumbai City FC. He led them to the summit of the league table, and secured their first-ever silverware (League Winners Shield) as well as a place in next season’s AFC Champions League group stage. Playing against a side he beat twice this season, the Spaniard has all the reasons to back himself and his team.
