Gameweek 5 of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21 witnessed a number of achievements by various teams. SC East Bengal registered their first points in the Hero ISL, while Hyderabad FC, Bengaluru FC and NorthEast United FC remained the only teams to have an unbeaten start to the season. As many as three encounters didn’t end in outright results this gameweek. Meanwhile, Sergio Lobera’s Mumbai City FC won their fourth straight match of the season, a first for them in the Hero ISL. Here we look at some of the highlights from the gameweek gone by.

Joao Victor scores 50th goal of Hero ISL 2020-21

Hyderabad FC fielded a young side with only two foreigners against ATK Mohun Bagan and still managed to hold them to a 1-1 draw on Friday. After going behind, Hyderabad midfielder Joao Victor scored from the spot to rein in ATK Mohun Bagan. Victor’s goal was also the fiftieth goal scored in the 2020-21 Hero ISL.

Mumbai City FC create history after winning fourth consecutive match

Mumbai City came back from a goal down to secure a 2-1 victory over Chennaiyin FC on Wednesday. The Islanders started the match on a shaky note, with Jakub Sylvestr scoring his first goal for the Marina Machans in Hero ISL 2020-21. However, the Islanders were not behind for long as Hernan Santana equalised for them. Adam le Fondre then scored the winner in the second half. This is the first time Mumbai City have won four consecutive matches in the Hero ISL.

SC East Bengal earn first points in the Hero ISL

After three straight losses in their first three matches, SC East Bengal held Jamshedpur FC to a goalless draw, getting a point as well as their first clean sheet in the Hero ISL. The Kolkata-based club played the large part of the match with 10 men after Eugeneson Lyngdoh was sent off but Jamshedpur could not make their man advantage count. It was Jamshedpur’s first clean sheet of the season.

Igor Angulo continues his goal-scoring spree

In what was the last match of Gameweek 5 on Saturday, FC Goa registered a 1-0 win against Odisha FC thanks to Igor Angulo’s strike in first-half injury time. Goa dominated the whole game from start to finish and had themselves to blame for a narrow victory margin. Angulo scored his sixth goal of the season and as of now he is right atop the goalscoring charts. From all evidence, he is Goa’s most potent striker and other teams need to stop him if they want to do well against the Gaurs.
