The 2020-21 Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) season witnessed its Gameweek 3 come to a close with ATK Mohun Bagan’s late win over Odisha FC at the Fatorda Stadium on Thursday. It’s been an unsatisfactory gameweek for the likes of FC Goa, SC East Bengal, Jamshedpur FC and Kerala Blasters FC, all yet to taste a victory. NorthEast United FC and Hyderabad FC, on the other hand, proved their doubters wrong having remained unbeaten so far. Let’s refresh our memory and relive some of the highlights from the gameweek gone by.

NorthEast United FC ready to take on the big guns of Hero ISL

After a win and a draw in their first two matches of the season, NorthEast United FC went up against an attacking FC Goa side and managed to keep them at bay as the match ended 1-1. The Highlanders displayed great defensive qualities besides being the team that broke the deadlock in the game. Although the Gaurs struck back almost immediately, they couldn’t prevent the Highlanders from earning another precious point.

Mumbai City FC finding their stride under Sergio Lobera

After a jittery start to Hero ISL 2020-21 with a loss to NorthEast United and a late win over FC Goa, Sergio Lobera’s Mumbai City FC finally found their scoring boots. The Islanders beat SC East Bengal by three goals, with Adam le Fondre scoring twice and Hernan Santana scoring his first goal in the blue of Mumbai City. However, the biggest talking point of the match was undoubtedly the two assists from Hugo Boumous, which took him above Marcelo Pereira as the highest assist-maker (19) in Hero ISL history.

SC East Bengal have unceremonious start to life in the Hero ISL

After a loss to ATK Mohun Bagan in their first game in the Hero ISL, SC East Bengal fell to a second consecutive loss, this time against Mumbai City FC. The club from Kolkata were on the back foot from the beginning of the game as they lost their captain and defender Daniel Fox early in the match, after which Mumbai City ran amok with a 3-0 win. Robbie Fowler’s team must be under tremendous pressure now, all the more so because their fierce rivals ATK Mohun Bagan have been at the other end of the performance spectrum.

ATK Mohun Bagan remain unstoppable

ATK Mohun Bagan once again did what they do best in their match against Odisha FC i.e. score out of nowhere. The match was heading towards a draw when Roy Krishna headed in the winner in second-half injury time to stun Stuart Baxter’s side. With the win, ATK Mohun Bagan registered their third consecutive win and Krishna took this goal tally to three this season, having scored his previous two goals against Kerala Blasters FC and SC East Bengal.
