The Hero Indian Super League (ISL) has given us a lot of memorable matches and when it comes to rivalries between the two clubs, the one between FC Goa and Bengaluru FC has been one of the more intense ones in the league's history.

The Gaurs and the Blues have crossed paths numerous times and produced suspense, anticipation, drama and of course some wonderful individual performances. The Fatorda Stadium and the Sree Kanteerva Stadium have hosted some of the most electrifying fan experiences as both teams have boasted two of the best fan groups in the country. 

FC Goa has never won the Hero ISL while Bengaluru FC has won it once getting the better of FC Goa in the 2018-19 season final at Mumbai Football Arena to further intensify the rivalry.

FC Goa and Bengaluru FC have played 11 matches against each other with FC Goa winning three times while Bengaluru taking the bragging rights home five times and three matches have ended up in draws. The spectacle between these two giants of Indian Football has helped us witness some of the finest moments in the Hero ISL.

As the two prepare to clash again in Goa, here is a list of top five matches between FC Goa and Bengaluru FC

Bengaluru FC 1-0 FC Goa (AET) Hero ISL 2018-19 Final

The final of the Hero ISL 2018-2019 season produced one of the most closely-fought finals in the history of league as the match went to the wire and was decided in the dying minutes of the second half of extra time. After ending the 90 minutes goalless where both teams were not short of chances, the match went into extra time with both coaches, Cuadrat and Lobera using all of their cards.

Rahul Bheke then settled the contest in the most dramatic fashion as he headed in Dimas Delgado’s corner in the 117th minute and the whole stadium burst into the biggest cheer of the night. The Blues had won their maiden Hero ISL title. The West Block Blues who stood behind their team till the last minute broke into tears as they saw Sunil Chettri lifting the Hero ISL and Bengaluru FC writing their name in the golden history of Indian football.

FC Goa 4-3 Bengaluru FC, Hero ISL 2017-2018

A seven-goal thriller at Fatorda in 2017-18 remains one of the most electrifying fixtures in Hero ISL history. Ten-man Bengaluru FC was on the receiving end of a Ferran Corominas hat-trick after goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was sent off after an altercation with Manuel Lanzorate in the first half. Lanzorate took the penalty himself and made no mistake in turning the penalty from the spot, giving FC Goa a 3-1 lead going into the half-time. Bengaluru FC played with ten men in the entire second half and scored through Miku (20th and 60th minute) and Erik Paartalu (57th minute). A festival of goals in Goa put the fixture as one of the main highlights of the season.

Bengaluru FC 2-1 FC Goa, Hero ISL 2019-20

A fixture in front of a packed Sree Kanteerva Stadium in Bangalore witnessed a masterclass by the skipper, Sunil Chettri. The West Block Blues chanted his name at top of their voice as Chettri scored a brilliant brace to top his exemplary individual performance. The Bengaluru FC skipper gave the home side the lead in the 59th minute as he powered a brilliant header into the goal. However, the joy was short-lived as Hugo Boumous equalised within a couple of minutes.

Bengaluru FC held onto their nerves but cometh the hour, cometh the man, The skipper scored the winning goal in the dying moments of the match, as he was one on one with the goalkeeper, and with his ice-cold nerves, the talisman slotted past Mohammad Nawaz and wrapped all the three points for the home team and the stadium erupted with the blue flags waving all around.

FC Goa 2-2 Bengaluru FC, Hero ISL 2020-21

An entertaining match with both the teams using all the cards to come out on top as the match took place at the Fatorda Stadium.Bengaluru FC opened the scoring through Cleiton Silva in the 28th minute. Bengaluru FC tightened their grip with continuous efforts on Mohammad Nawaz’s goal as the first half ended with the Blues going in with a lead. 

The second half saw Juanan double the lead in the 57th minute to put the Blues on course for all three points but Igor Angulo had different plans as his quick-fire brace in the span of three minutes (66 and 69) turned the game on its head.  The match ended as a draw with both teams going in for the kill in the end but with no team being able to snatch all three points.

FC Goa 2-1 Bengaluru FC, Hero ISL 2021-22

Hard-fought three points for FC Goa as the Gaurs held onto their lead to show the side’s defensive abilities in this tight match in Hero ISL 2021-22 season. Juan Ferrando’s men went in front through Jorge Ortiz’s effort. Bengaluru FC then responded well as they piled on the pressure on the Gaurs and their continuous efforts finally paid off as a thunderbolt strike from Cleiton Silva flew past Dheeraj Moirangthem in a flash.

The comeback turned harder for FC Goa as Jorge Ortiz lost his cool after a tackle from Suresh Wangjam and he got sent off in the 55th minute. The Guars stayed in the match and their sheer perseverance paid off as Devandra Murgaonkar’s goal in the 70th minute sent the whole stadium into a wave of ecstasy as ten-man FC Goa turned the match around and scored the decisive goal.

Bengaluru FC tried on for the rest of the match but FC Goa didn't give an inch away and won a memorable match through sheer team work.
