The new marquee manager of NorthEast United FC, César Farias, comes to the side with a lot of managerial experience behind him. After his last stint managing the Venezuelan national team for five years, Farias now comes to the ISL to work wonders with his experience and expertise. Here’s what he had to say in an exclusive interview with indiansuperleague.com.When asked on what kind of football he likes to see his teams play, Farias said, “Happy football, with order and balance, as well as taking good care of the ball. Thinking of scoring at all times without losing the structure on the field.” He also said that he doesn’t necessarily take inspiration from any particular football coach. “I believe each coach understands football in accordance to their roots and from that starting point I believe in my way, to print my mark on the teams I coach.”How different is it to be a coach in India from a tactical point of view? “From a tactical point of view, and after having analysed many games from the 2014 season, teams are organised defensively and from there they work the game to find the answer to each situation. Farias is also clear as to what aspects of the game will need to be worked upon at his new club. “At NorthEast United FC, we will work a lot with the offensive part to generate scoring opportunities from the flanks and in the centre of the attack. With a lot of breaking runs inside out and vice-versa and in each training session we will make emphasis on these aspects of the game.”Speaking of his expectations this season, Farias said, “The expectations are always the highest, first let's take the appropriate step to classify NorthEast United to its first play-offs and once [we’re] there, of course, we [would] want to reach the final and then we want to be champions."Coming off his 5-year stint with Venezuela, we asked Farias if it is any different to coach a national team and a club team. “It's different. In the club you can work every day and live the moment and the recovery times are very short while in a national team you have to live moments of intensity and then you have more time to prepare every game,” he said.We all remember how passionate the NEUFC fans were last season. The new head coach of the Highlanders shares the exact same sentiment. “Passion comes to my mind right away. The last game of the season, the stadium was packed and that speaks high of their love for the game and the team. I want that to continue and to keep growing as we will do our best to qualify for the play-offs. Their encouragement is also part of this goal to reach the final to have the opportunity to win it all,” he said when talking of the amazing fans. The John Abraham-owned club play their first match of the ISL second season on October 6th against Kerala Blasters FC.
